Mushroom anyone?

We get these "Puffballs" around our area once in a while. This one was at my Dad's place today. You can get an idea of the size of it based on the leaves / weeds growing around it.

They are quite impressive when you encounter them in the woods. If you plan on eating them be careful as there is a poisonous variety that looks exactly like this on the outside but is different from the edible version on the inside.

If possible, it would be interesting to go back and take a photo once it has gone to seed. It will look very different then! We used to kick them like footballs and there would be a cloud of spores hanging in the air. Now I read that those spores are dangerous to ones health. Oops!

Thanks for sharing.

(I couldn't resist searching Google for the location of Lisle, Ontario. Now I know!)

Blimey, I could make a nice big pot of soup with that, or you could draw a face on it

We actually did pick it to see if it was any good, but I think we were a day or 2 too late. It did start going to seed.

J.Scott, we did the same thing when we were kids. It was great fun jumping and kicking them when they were going to seed.

This is not the biggest one I've seen, but it was a good size regardless.
