Not all herons are large. This is a nice shot of the greenie. I used to have problems identifying birds til I found the online bird site listed below:

Search for a bird by entering name, description, and keywords, All About Birds, Cornell Lab of Ornithology

There is also the Little Blue Heron, they're not big either. There are others that are not big like the Great Blue too. Check the site for your next outing and bird you can't ID.
