A "Gift" from Harvey
Lens: DFA 28-105 Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Lake Jackson, TX

Although southern Brazoria county (about 40 - 50 miles south of Houston) somehow dodged the massive, 40-50 inches of Harvey's rain experienced in the metro Houston area, we still got hit with flood waters streaming down the Brazos and San Bernard rivers on their way to the Gulf. The rivers have crested and life is returning to normal. Our community of Lake Jackson experienced street flooding in three neighborhoods, requiring evacuations (we hosted some evacuees for a few nights), but there was little damage to homes. Such is not the case in nearby communities, which suffered extensive and catastrophic flooding.

I ventured forth a few days ago to try to capture scenes of flooding, but police (quite rightly) heavily limited access to flooded areas, since gawkers are nothing but trouble ; consequently I didn't come up with much photographically.

Here are a couple of pics of a flooded lowland near Oyster Creak and of a road to one of the town's popular parks.

My heart goes out to all those in Texas who have so much more to endure. The impact of Harvey will take years to overcome. Florida is also in my prayers because I fear that will take a severe toll too. Glad you and your family are OK Jer.

The second scene, in particular, is both attractive and moving.
