Chickens .... pets???? These are nice images, but I can't imagine cuddling with one of these as a cuddle with my cat.

Ha! I guess I could have put them in a different category, but we only have 5 and well, they're as much pets to us as they are livestock. They will "buk" indignantly if you try to pet them, but they follow you around the yard in the most charming way.

We sold eggs at our farm stand for many years. Had as many as fifty hens. Sold the farm, moved down the road a few miles and now have only eight girls. They are pets and give us wonderfully fresh eggs.

Nice! I'd love to have more, but we're not set up to sell eggs yet. We have a huge yard for the chickens, definitely have the space for them. With 5 chickens, we're swimming in eggs.

Our eight girls are getting pretty long in the beak so they don't lay every day anymore. The feed bill hasn't changed but they don't produce like they did when they were young.
