East Texas vacation
Posted By: dws1117, 08-22-2008, 08:07 PM

Family just spent the week on our land in east Texas. Only had about one and a half dry days. The rest of the time was spent inside playing games due to constant rain for several days. It was still a lot of fun.

People were shot with the kit lens v.2 and other with the Tammy 70-300.

Whole family taken on the one not rainy day.

When it's raining you play in it of course.

Rain doesn't stop the birds. Taken through a dirty screened window while raining outside.

That's rain not noise. These two came across the upper pasture behind the house in the middle of the day. They were a good couple of hundred yards away.

During a break in the rain one evening, we kept hearing a peeping sound we had thought to be a bird but found it to be this baby possum.

In my imagination Texas is a dry and dessert like state.
Your pictures show a green and fertile environment.
Except for the nice picture of the baby possum, you might as well have stayed in Holland!

I guess I've been watching too many John Wayne movies in the past

Texas is a very diverse state with many very different climate regions. Parts of west Texas is much like you describe. While south Texas along the Rio Grande is very fertile and lots of citrus fruit is grown there. The one thing that all areas have is common if heat and lots of it in the summer.

Hey Wayne - these shots are a bunch of fun. Spontaneous and effective.

What do you define as "East Texas"? I live near Freeport - so where's East Texas from here?

My Mother grew up in Lake Jackson and I spent a good portion of my youth at my grandparents house there also. I've always considered the coastal communities as south to south-east Texas. To me east Texas is the piney woods region and east of I-45 up towards Nacogdoches.

Thanks for the comments. I don't know whether or not I'll ever be a "photographer" but I'm a good snap shot shooter.
