Nice pics Rosemary... Prefer the first one though the second is very sharp. Which lens were you using for the shoot? JIMBO

The first pic is one taken later on in the shoot and I think I was getting a little better by then. I used both the 50-135 and my 18-55. I took a ton of pics, lol so there will be more. Did not use any flash trying to capture the ambience of the place. Not sure if that is good or bad, lo

How about a menu Rosemary, I'm famished.
They are very nice photos but I think they could be improved if you had people sitting at the table (esp #2 and #3) drinking in the ambiance.
When I think of food photos, I can't help thinking of the fast food joints where your food never looks like pictures.
Now if you put people in the picture enjoying the food, that makes a big difference to me.
I won't go to a restaurant just because the food is nice, it's got to have something else going on. That's just me and is not a criticism of your shots.
You did well to get those shots without a flash.
Gary

Thanks Gary. I tried to get the owner to let me bring a couple with me but they would not allow it. So I plan to work on them a bit more to see if I can come out again and use models or friends. I agree, I would have loved some shots with people. I must say this place has fab food!

It worked. I'm hungry! and the best I have to hope for is a cheese sandwich.
Good work Rosemary.

Hi Rosemary! I do like the image concepts and just two things stand out for me (the rest is fine, no question):
  1. What color are the table cloths - are they blue/gray, or are they white? I ask this because the flash shows them as white, and it looks like you let the camera choose the exposure? If they are white it needs to be corrected - if not, then my apologies!
  2. Regarding the second image - can you recover via some PP the rolled white napkin's slightly blown highlights on the left of the table? If not, let me know and I can try for you.
Again, nothing major, more going through the details and that's what popped out immediately to me. The details are always important to me, and I'd rather see them addressed if there are potential problems. I learned a lot in a small class session with a product photography specialist. He was using a Hasselblad with a $25K Phase One digital back... crazy detail!!! The attention to details carries into macro and wildlife photography a lot too.

Regards,
Marc

Hi Rosemary, two and three are my favs, but I have to agree with Marc L. about the blue/grey tablecloth. Surprisingly the blown highlights in #2 don't bother me much, and I'm usually sensitive to that kind of thing. But other than that minor niggle aside, well done. Made me hungry too, and all I have are donuts!
Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks Dave. I found myself thinking about all kinds of things while doing this shoot. Ambiance, lighting, how to make the food look good and keep a romantic setting. I shot in 2 rooms plus the patio outside and discovered bees love wine too!
