Not familiar with the historical context, but this is a great capture of a subject that would otherwise probably not look as cool

Aye, few people here on the forum would have been there to see the Raising Of The Standard...

Interesting photo. Is the raising of the standard have something to do with William Wallace ? The other thing I thought of when looking at the shield is is the white stars on a blue background...the colour and image is similar to the design of the American flag . Any interesting historical connection to this similarity ?

Indeed it was, in 1297 Andrew De Moray raised his standard at this place, to rally his forces before joining William Wallace as part of the Scottish Army, which defeated the English at the battle of Stirling Bridge.

No connection to the US as far as I know.

Nice photo - standard clearly in focus, with other aspects of the land clearly there.

I should hope so, my "Special Lady” (Pentax-A 50mm F1.2) knows what's expected of her by now.

Well as far as I'm concerned no one should ever need to ask for forgiveness for being patriotic. A nice image that I'm sure means a lot to a lot of people. Thanks for posting it.

My mothers family, the Caldwell's, immigrated to the U.S. from Scotland sometime in the mid 1700's.

In Scottish history terms, they're just recent exports from our shores... how they getting on?

Aye. But in terms of U.S. history they were relative early birds to our shores. All who are left are doing fine as far as I know.

I guess, the "Raising Of The Standard" I'm talking about here, was a bit further back, some 721 years ago in 1297.

That's good to hear... another Scottish implant/infiltration still working away well.
