2 to 1 Macro
Posted By: old4570, 09-22-2017, 06:51 PM

Some time ago I purchased a Jupiter M8 50mm lens for reversing purposes ..
I tried it in front of a 50mm and I thought it some what of a fail .. But it was purchased to be reversed in front of a 100mm lens ..

So with the K100 F4 in my K20 I screwed on the jupiter and went and took some fails ...

Trying to shoot some bee's was much harder than I thought .. 2 to 1 is just so much harder than 1 to 1 ..
Obviously for smaller critters it could be just so sweet , but the little jumping spiders were hiding and the baby mantis are not out yet .
+ As I was trying to photograph the bees the wind came up ( spoiler ) .

2 to 1 just means everything is twice as critical as at 1:1

This spring summer I will try and give 2:1 a serious try !

( Oh yeah ! the Jupiter M8 50mm works just fine in front of a 100mm lens ) JUPITER-8m F2 50mm Russian Lens for Kiev / Contax

Do you mean a Jupiter-8 50/2 in M39(LTM...Leica thread) mount or a Jupiter-8M 50/2 in Contax/Kiev mount? It looks to work quite nicely.

What adapter did you use to reverse it? I assume you shoot with it wide open and control the exposure with the 100mm?

Good shots.

2 adapters are used ..
I use a 40.5 to 49mm step up adapter ..
The K 100 F4 lens has a 52mm filter thread so I am using a 52 to 49 step down adapter .

By reversing a 50 in front of the 100 I maintain all the functions of the K mount lens , all I am doing is turning a 100mm lens into a 2:1 macro , or better .. ( Yes , the 50 is left wide open - F2 in this case )

Thats the tip of a mechanical pencil , Lead is 0.9mm

I've cobbled together reverse couplers by epoxying step up and step down rings together. If you choose the right sizes, the rings nest inside each other and are thinner than if you just butt two of the same rings back to back. So, for example, if I have two lenses with 49mm filter threads that I want to couple together, I might choose a 49-52mm step up ring and a 49-55 ring. the 52mm side slips into the 55mm of the other. This also results in a generous surface area onto which the adhesive of your choice can be applied. As long as you've got the desired male thread diameter at each end, it doesn't matter what combinations you use.

Here's a 52-58mm step-up ring epoxied to a 55-52 step-down ring. The step-down ring fits completely within the wider end of the step-up ring. The sizes used also means that centring the one inside the other is simple, with little to no play between them even before gluing.

Lens-to-lens reverse adapters are pretty easy to get in a wide range of sizes (AdapterRings.com - Offical Site. The world's largest seller of Camera Adapter Rings.). If you want to DIY, try using Cokin mounting rings. They have a nice wide surface for epoxy or cyanoacrylic glue.
