Last week I brought the K20D home from work and decided I would top off the battery while I had it here. Next morning I got to work, swapped lenses, turned on the camera, and.....and....nothing. I had forgotten to reinstall the battery.

Fortunately, I had a bagfull of lenses and a Spotmatic ESII in the truck.

Now when I recharge the battery I make sure to leave the battery door open so I don't forget it again. Might be a good idea to do the same with the memory card door while the card is out of the camera.

Yeah, I keep the memory card door open if there's nothing in. I also turn on the camera before leaving the house with it. And I have a spare memroy card in each of my camera bags.

Still, I am sure something will go wrong with this plan. Mice and men and all that.

This is one of the reasons i bought the grip for my k10d, always have a spare card in the grip, and also extra battery.. Never been a problem for me

I think a majority of us have ben there done that myself included. I also now have the battery grip and a spare just in case. I now try and make a habbit to review the first shot I take

Exactly. This would drive me absolutely batty - I'd forget and leave the memory card in my card reader probably 15% of the time - then I got a grip, and I have a spare in there. When I forget the primary, I always have the spare, right in the camera.

I've read and heard enough of these stories that I when I store my gear, I make sure it's pretty much ready to go. It helps to have 2 spare batteries and many SD cards.
And if I know in advance that there'll be a possibility of a shoot, then I make sure to prepare everything.

Hope you enjoyed the barbie and sunset though; it would've been pretty nice, being right on the beach too.

Plus, I don't think it's a mistake you'll be making again anytime soon; sometimes the best way to learn is to learn from your mistakes.

I drove 250 miles to a Blues Festival in Tampa and Left my camera sitting on a friends table 30 miles from the Festival. I had just bought the camera for the show, needless to say I cryed the whole day. He had his D1H Nikon though.

ohh, similar happened to me the other week.

We were having wild storm after wild storm for weeks. Water spouts forming over Long Island Sound; quite unusual. I needed to go out to get my wife @ the train station right as another - expected to be wild storm - was heading in. I though I may get lucky and see another water spout while I'm on the sandbar I have to take to get to/from where I live. On my way out, I open the window & put the camera in hand to check some focal length & framing I'd expect if I needed to act fast... I see, no SD Card. Ugh.

At least the storm didn't form, this time, either. I'm sure I'll make the mistake again however.
