Roadrunner and Sparrow images
Posted By: Marc Langille, 08-24-2008, 02:00 PM

Only a slight crop on the top of this image - yes she was that close - I had nowhere to go...

Taken at F/7.1, 1/1000 sec., ISO 1250, EV -0.7, M mode using the K20D + FA* 300/2.8 using the "Kirk Fat Bean Bag special setup" (my window ledge inside the SUV):

I've submitted the above image plus the shot of this lady in a full run to the PPG...

One more with the K20D + FA* 300/2.8 - taken at F/4.5, 1/640 sec., ISO 800, EV -0.7, M Mode with Tamron 1.4x Pz-AF MC4 Teleconverter:

The above image is a moderate crop - the actual size is 2240x 1644 pixels after cropping. It's now in the Pentax Photo Gallery...

The sparrow image (no cropping) below was taken at F/8, 1/400 sec., ISO 800, EV -0.7. That shutter speed is NOT recommended for a 500mm lens with no stabilization in it or the body... I am glad it came out that crisp...

Crop of the Sparrow image - this is barely at 50% of the actual image size:

Cheers,
Marc

Wow, another series of birds shots. You love to reveal the plumage and every time I see your birding posts, the feather texture stands out.

Summer is near in Australia I will have my turn soon

Super Mark, you sure do get 'em. Looks like you could have kissed the roadrunnner if you wanted.

Woah that roadrunner image is absolutely amazing. The detail is incredible. What a great portrait to have in your portfolio Marc. It must have been something to have this bird get so close to you. To fill the frame at 300mm with this guy you had to be very close!

Those are beautiful shots Marc! I look forward to seeing your latest shots. You must have a lot to go through after your trip I think he's looking for one of those giant centipedes

Again a set of stunners Marc

I am continued to be thrilled every time I open one of your threads in the Photo Post section.

Your perfection in capturing animals..especailly birds with these crisp detailed images sets a bench mark as to what is achievable with Pentax and wildlife photography

Keep em coming mate

Indeed another outstanding series. The PPG would do well with any / all of these. The sparrow with the open mouth man you could check the tonsils on that one. Love the road runner as well. Well done Marc.

Hi James, thank you for stopping by! It's one of my favorite ways to photograph them - plumage detail...

I look forward to those posts when your turn comes!!

Cheers,
Marc
