Unfortunately, in many areas itís not over yet; although progress is being made, many homes and lives are still at serious risk.

Thanks for those shots. My sister is just west of the train depot and downtown, and that neighborhood was spared.

Thank you all. SpecialK, very glad your sister is safe. I can't help having mixed feelings about coming through this unscathed: gratitude that the fire went in another direction, and guilt that I'm glad it moved away which means others were devastated. Hard to reconcile.

Great contrast in the objects — charred remaining of trees vs fire hydrants; burnt truck vs buildings in good shapes in the background; dead plants vs kind words from a neighbour.

les3547, we had dense smoke and ashes raining down from the sky in Kent Valley, Washington a month or two ago, but not as bad as where you are at. Hope everyone is ok.

Excellent photos, Peggy. I like the B&W treatment and your composition really capture the devastation.

Thanks. About 1/2 mile north and another 1/2 mile east were the two neighborhoods shown so much in the news: both were completely flattened and are still closed. This location was relatively lucky and has been reopened to traffic; as you can see in the second photo, most buildings were OK, only a few businesses and part of a mobile home park across the street burnt, some others had water/smoke damage. I thought that sign was very touching.

Frankly, I can't wait to get back to taking pictures of sparrows!

btw Jer: You're in coastal Texas. Were you affected by, good grief there have been so many disasters recently I've forgotten which one belongs to Texas ... was it Harvey? Hope you got through that OK.
