Lake Placid/Vermont Hikes
Posted By: Jewelltrail, 08-24-2008, 08:25 PM

I recently returned from 1 week of bliss in the High Peaks of the ADKs, and another week of bliss in the Green Mts of Vermont. I wanted to share some shots:

Really nice pictures!

Oh man I love the adirondacks! I spent a lot of time there in the last 20 years I'll be canoeing in the Saranac area in a few weeks (a "reunion" trip for some of my old Scouts from 10 years ago who called me up and asked to go back canoeing where I used to take them!)

Love the mountains. Haven't been to the Adirondacks yet but they are on our list. Heading out to our favorite place - the Smokies - next week. Can't wait. Hope I come back with some shots as nice as yours.

Nice shots. I'm an Adirondack resident and after many years I never get tired or bored hiking and paddling this wonderful place. The first shot is very familiar scenery in the background.

Me too! I live in the Adirondacks every day. "Adirondack Court", that is. My "Adirondack" is in VA.

I just want to take a second and thank everyone for the nice comments.--mucho appreciated.

ve2vfd: This pic, of the Lake Saranac region, is for you. Perhaps you can spot some great canoeing from this shot. Happy canoeing!

reeftool: The background in the first shot is of the "Great Range." I got this shot just a quarter mile shy of the summit of Noonmark. I wish you lots of great hiking in the ADKs and High Peaks of Lake Placid.

cardinal43: Last year I did some hiking in Virginia, off the Blue Ridge Parkway, on the AT. It sure is beautiful there too.

slowpez: I have lots of family just south of the Smokies, in Greenville, SC. Please post some of your shots of the Smokies when you return--thanks.

cupic: The mountains bring me mind-expanding joy!

Best regards to All!

This sure is a great place to post photos and get positive feedback--I'll just have to do this more often.

vizjerei: The number 2 shot is from the Pentax A 50mm 1.7--you are correct, this is a great place for camping.

ve2vfd: If I do not go to Maine for New England foliage, it will be back to Vermont and the High Peaks---in which case, from what your shot from Wrights peak shows me, I'll just have to hike it too--thanks.

Heinrich Lohmann: Try to make it there in a month or a little more if possible to see the incredible foliage display. Perhaps we'll bump into one another

I love Wright, it's one of those mountains that still pretty high (16th highest of the 49), but unlike Marcy or Algonquin, you don't have to "stand in line" on the peak as it's almost deserted. It's a decent climb, with the last stretch being pretty steep.

An interesting fact is that you'll find a few of the remains of a B-47 that crashed on the mountain top back in 1962. There is a plaque honouring the crew who died near the summit.
