Iceland Tour
Camera: K5 Photo Location: Iceland

Had the chance to tour a piece of Iceland this past August. Would go back in a heartbeat! Loved that place. Had fun taking hundreds of photos. I found it odd to be in front of so many recognizable places (there are probably millions of photos on line of the big waterfalls along the southern coast) that I had not actually been to before. Since everyone has seen photos of the big waterfalls, icebergs in Jokusarlon and probably Halgrimskirkja, here are three that may be a little less familiar. The first is view of one of the many streams and rivers to cross if you find yourself driving in Landmanalaugar - amazing, rugged place. I would not drive it myself again though - too stressful, which leads to too few pictures. I recommend riding along in one of the many monster-truck tour jeeps that passed us by. Number 2 is a view back north to Foss a sithu (bastardized spelling since my keyboard does not have the Icelandic alphabet) from Dverghamrar. The place was one of the few places along the Ring Road we had to ourselves. Has some cool exposed basalt columns, and offers a nice framing for the distant waterfall (which is impressive up close). I know the photo is dark, but it was 8pm, threatening rain and we did not get back that way. The third is view east along the Ring Road towards Vatnaj÷kull National Park. I had a good minute before that tour bus gt there. The view of the glaciers gives you an idea of where all those waterfalls get their water. Number 4, just for a laugh is my wife and me next to Iceland's tallest tree in KirkjubŠjarklaustur, great town with a fun name. We both have forestry degrees, so this was a great find. I also know this photo is dark, but it was 10:30 pm after all. Thanks for looking. If you get the chance, make the trip to Iceland. DW19

Brought back happy memories, I was there in February 2009, mostly around Reykjavik and the southern end, it was kind of cold. Great landscape particularly noticed how the costal cliffs shot straight up instead of the way they gradually sweep down to the sea here. I was fascinated by the lava fields and tiny moss covering they have. There was a reforestation program being undertaken at that time but I'm not sure if it got shelved after the financial crash.

Thank you for the reminder that there is more to life than waterfalls and glaciers - and in Iceland, it is all beautiful.
