K-1 does Northern Lights
Posted By: Fries, 10-23-2017, 03:05 PM

Got lucky in Northern Norway on a 7 day's hike with lots of Northern Lights in the sky. It was my first time so late in the year and it was freezing a little bit at night. The last part of the trip I stayed in a mountain cabin but most nights I was glad I bought a better sleeping bag with only some tent fabric between me and the weather.

Cheers,

Remco

Awesome, I'd love to get images like that but they always happen after my bedtime. One of my buddies gets them from a bridge near my house. Never as good as these however.

Thanks! The art was in the sky and I was lucky enough to document it.

Norm, thank you! I was blown away by how bright it was on two occasions. I was able to read the distance scale on my lens... And most of it started rather early in the evening so I was able to get a good nights rest. I tried to find spots to put my tent up that offered something extra if the Northern Lights payed me a visit. That worked out really wel in the first shot with the lake.

And thanks for commenting Norbert! Something different from my usual seaside shots.

I'd like these pictures again but they won't let me do two likes on one post.

Both very stunning and striking lights and colors. I am in awe of this work of yours. Many thanks for sharing. I have tried to think up a word to adequately describe how I feel about this series, so here it is: "Humbling"

Thank you for your kind words! It is a humbling experience when you are on your own seeing this stuff move in the sky Tony. It is a guess, but 60 procent of what you see here can be attributed to nature providing something really wonderful, 20 procent work&money to get in a position to exploit it and a equal 20 procent of skill to retrieve worthwhile images. To put it in another way, what you see here is achievable for many more members if they are lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights, are able to put in the necessary work and are willing to experiment&learn to get good photo's. I hope it inspires you and other people to have a go at it. It is not rocket science!

Thanks! I know there are occasions it can be seen in your part of Norway although the north is off course better.

Cheers,

Remco
