Sailboat at night
Posted By: little laker, 08-26-2008, 10:01 PM

I was out walking, with a friend after dark when we saw this boat sailing.
I was lucky getting this shot

edited with fixed photo and ad this one.

I re-used the first photographs original name, so you might have to press refresh

That would be hard to meter. You got a great composition there. Somehow the sail seems to be a little vulnerable collapsing into the sea soon.

Model or not, it's a beautiful shot Stu. I'd black out the light and line at the top and keep this one for sure.

Model or not it works. The stark contrast, the reflection. Beautiful.

Thank you everyone, I was amazed how hard it was to dial in. It was worth the effort though

I've added the other one to the first post, and fixed the original. You might have to press refresh to see the repair.

I thought that the same light looked like the moon shining behind the clouds on the new photo, so I left it in.

Stu, it goes without saying (for obvious reasons) I love these shots. As James said, you did some pretty fancy metering to make this work.

Great job.

Thanks Jim,
That reflection amazes me. I wasn't expecting any while using flash photography at night
Although I like the effect as well

Thanks Jer,
I knew that you'd live it.
I'd love to try the same thing, with a real sailboat. Although I'd need that plane vizjerei mentioned. Or a cliff would work better.
And could you imagine the flash I'd need

I emailed the boat owner the photographs yesterday, and it sounds like I might get a wedding shoot, or 2 out of it
He has 2 daughters, that it sounds like are getting married soon.

Still like the first shot. There is just too much boat in the second. Sometimes less is more.
