Most of which is totally irrelevant today.

There maybe other others here, that may well query both our wisdom and knowledge, for a bunch of old...

Tess says you're only as old as you feel.

I say you're only as old as you think, half the time I'm thinking about things that happened before 1970.

The Highland version of that phrase is... "Your only as only as old as the women you feel", so that's me knackered as I'm a toy boy.

Shall we discuss the value of a single album turn table as opposed to the type where you stacked multiple LPS and let them drop onto the platter and/or other LPS

OR the correct tracking weight of the needle

OR use of a strobe to check spin of the turn table

I thought that was W.C. Fields

The guy Mae West said "Is that a pistol in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" to.

And who's tombstone reads "I'd rather be here than in Philadelphia."

I do and I also know how to de-gauss multi-track tape recorder heads after working as a recording studio engineer for a number of years.

On the subject of "Who knows how to .... " who remembers how to change and gap a set of points on a distributor?

On my Volkswagin Beetle. all I need for that was an adjustable wrench and a screw driver, and then I'd set the timing afterwards.

There is a difference between knowing how to do and be able to do

something

Put me in the former category on a number of topics

Bring me an original VW beetle and I'll get'er done.

My old toolbox used to have a couple of old sets of points and a new spare. I wonder if they are still there. I'll have to check next time I'm out in the shed. They'd be good for showing my grandson, "Guess what these are?" I'll show him a thing or two.

Ahh but, it's always better to 'know' before you 'do', bad things can happen if you try it the other way around! Letting the 'magic smoke' out of electronic equipment is always a sign that someone 'did' before they 'knew'!

I've still got my feeler gauges and know exactly where to find 'em.

Yup me too (all three sets). I've still got a timing strobe light too although it's been buried, in it's original box, at the bottom of my wooden tool chest for many years now!
