If you listen to the song it sounds like he says 'Douche" not "deuce."

I recall ELO but research says Bruce wrote and first released, ( unsuccessfully ) and then Manfred Mann ( changed lyrics and instruments ) as well

Does that help explain the weirdness of the lyrics?

That's because the singer in Manfred Mann's Earth Band had a lisp and couldn't pronounce the word correctly. It's funny that Bruce Springsteen (who wrote the song) claims it only became successful after MMEB changed the subject of the song to female hygiene products!

Make that four.
I've always like Manfred Mann in all of his incarnations and styles.

Maybe he's on to something. I never had any clue what anyone was saying until I looked up the lyrics, after thinking "What is that song even about?" about 1000 times. Unfortunately looking up the lyrics didn't help with any kind of understanding.

I still just sing (under my breath) 'Blinded by the light, doo doo doo doo doodoo doodoo in the night."

You can't? I have to confer with some females about this.

Blasphemy I say! Blasphemy! Every true audiophile knows that vinyl is ten times better than digital. It's like music with pixel shift added for increased clarity.

Can't wait to hear what the "Luverly Tess" is gonna reply to that question... I'd stand back a bit when asking if I were you.

The hard core gang of five... a formidable team with a combined age of far too many years.
