South to the mountains....
Posted By: clarenceclose, 02-21-2007, 06:17 PM

Pano 5 shot was taken yesterday over a field prepared, in the fall, for spring planting of potatoes.

The mountain in the center background is only 8700 feet high but has some snow for now. We are sorely missing snow on the Snake River Plain so I fear this will be a dry summer.

Click on the pano for larger shot.

C&C appreciated.

Beautiful pano., Clarence. For y'all's sake I hope it snows more then. Which is the "middle" mountain.

Finally, could reduce the image size, and link to the full size one, please?

The middle mountain is the one right in the middle of the shot(s) with the saucer shaped cloud to its left.
Of course with the need to pan the shot it is hard to determine the middle.

I tried medium ... too small
I tried large... too small
Don't know how to show the photo and link it.
Would you be so kind as to educate me and I will do.
Thanks,
Clarence

Did you stitch several shots together to create this pano? Such a wide expanse.

Really nice pano Clarence, When I first looked at it my second thought (after "beautiful mountains" ) was "Wow! that sure is a LOT of potatoes!
I usually like mountain photos to have as little foreground as possible, I usually think it detracts from the mountains. But in this shot I think the potato field is as important as the mountains, if not more so. Nice combination of flat cultivated land and mountainous wild land.

I wish I had mountains in my back yard so that I could slip out for a minute and take stunning shots...

As for centering - I'd like to see straight potato rows in the center, at the moment they're too left for me. Seems like you started the pano and got carried away, taking it more to the right

First embed smaller pic with IMG tags, then select that part (with IMG tags) and add a link (link icon is truly bizarre to me, looks more like a copy icon) with the path to the bigger pic. Your link should afterwards look like this:

(URL="http://url.to.the/bigger_pic.jpg)(IMG)http://url.to.the/smaller_pic.jpg(/IMG)(/URL)

I used parentheses, obviously there should be brackets.

This is an amazing pano job.

Where is this place, clarence?

When I scroll the screen to the right, there is such big expanse of space !

Thank you all for your gracious comments.

Alvin: Stitched 5 photos to make the pano

aabram: Thank you for the info on the correct way to post smaller with a link. As to the positioning, I wanted the ditch and field edge with the taller mountain (saucer cloud) in the background centered and to show the expanse of mountains to our east and south.

wjwncpro: No filter. Set camera at 1000th sec, f4.5 in manual and hand held pan shot with ~20% overlap per picture. The shot came off stairstepped so I did crop the top a bit more than the bottom.

James: This is what I drive by every day to go home. This is a big place at the southern end of the Snake River Plain abutting these foothills/mountains. The nice thing is within 20-30 minutes I can be hiking in the hills.

Very beautiful pano Clarence. I like the blue sky contrasted with the ground and the lines of the field carry me away. Now I really want to try a pano myself. Thanks for sharing.
