So I guess this is bad news! Help!
Posted By: Syb, 08-29-2008, 08:37 AM

Found this under the ceiling of our barn. It is not very large, about a fist's size. But I have a young child, And don't want to put her to danger. How do I get rid of these beasts?

No need to take a broom stick, or guys to do the dirty work.

It is now totally abandoned.

Me thinks the wife (or a neighbour) went out and did the job without you knowing it. Never known of a next falling like that.

Me neither. Asked the wife and she said: who me? Noooooo way!
So I asked the three-year old and she said: who me? Nooooo way!
So I asked the lady nextdoor and she said: Do come in! What? Nooooooo way!
So I asked all the people in the village, and they said: Nooooo way!

Took me quite a while but now I am sure it was the wind and the rain that did it!

And sorry, cannot burn it anymore! Thrown away already...

Nice to see no violence was required.
Even though wasps are nasty creatures, some of the posts here have been downright belligerent! Although I have been stung by a wasp before (on the fingertip) so I understand.

At least you got a good pic of the nest in action before it was abandoned. I wanted to see more action, though! (Bigger nest = better pictures?)

Bigger nest = more shaky hands, me is afraid... so this may just be the best you could expect from me

I am assuming the wasp nest is fist sized and not the wasp. There are sprays made for wasps that shoot a stream from 20 feet back that should do the trick which I assume are available in your country. Or, wait for a cold morning below 50 deg F ( sorry, I had a brain fart, you probably use celsius and i'm not up to conversions at the moment) and jus knock it down and step on it. Wasps are sluggish in cold weather. Nice photo.

Watching wasps pick-up mud/soil for their nests is amazing but the question remains:

What are they good for - birds? Yeah I know, google.it
