Was Nike missiles, now a park
Lens: Various Camera: 6D Photo Location: S of Encino CA ISO: 100

San Vicente Mountain Park, in the hills south of Encino CA. I woke up to a foggy morning but I hoped it would clear up after an hour drive. My camera sensor is incredibly dirty - I cloned 50 spots for all the ones you see.

I parked near the park entrance which was crowded. It was the wrong spot and I had to walk about a mile uphill on the dirt road to the actual park entrance, which had open parking spots.

This used to be manned 24-hours a day.

Was a radar tower, now an observation tower.

Looking southerly from the observation tower.

Encino reservoir. Looking northish from the road.

Canyon houses to the southeast on Mandeville Canyon Rd.

Radar antenna.

You may encounter some animals.

If you are adventurous you can take other trails. I might try again when the sky is clear.

Northerly view from the flat area, which I'm only guessing may have been a helipad.

There are still some existing buildings.

Used your Nikes (shoes) to hike to where they used to house the Nikes (missles).

What lens did you use on that 6d? looks pretty nice.

Thanks. I used the 28 IS, 50 1.8 STM and 70-200 f4. Time to try another sensor cleaning - it is hideous :-(

Thanks for looking and commenting. I enjoyed the trip even if it was "bad sky".

I remember Nike missile sites from my youth in Chicagoland. Sometimes they would open the bunkers and raise the missiles for no apparent reason, although I always thought of it as being like the times fireman would take their trucks out for washing.
