Posted By: Eastern Shore Charlie, 08-30-2008, 05:57 AM

Went to my nephews wedding last weekend in Portsmouth and I had to go check out beautiful grand old lady....The USS Missouri at rest in downtown Norfolk, VA.

Nice pictures. I particularly like the last one. Might this be the USS Wisconsin? My understanding is that the USS Missouri is on permanent exhibit in Pearl Harbor.

I love that third pic. I'm jealous- I've always wanted to see one of those battlewagons up close.

It think Steve is right- the Mighty Mo is BB 63.

That sure is a beautiful ship. She is riding high on the water, I don't normally see that. The skies were beautiful to complement these images, the lighting is lovely. Pretty shots!

Very nice... I love the old battleships. And they are letting another fine one rot near San Francisco, the Iowa... Understandably they are obsolete for today's modern warfare, but they should be preserved as historic landmarks for the future generations to see. I've love to see one of these up close.

Did you manage to go onboard and check her out? Or is the ship closed to the public?

I wonder if that's cause she doesn't have any fuel, ammo, or any of the other normal things that add weight to a ship her size. I would imagine they strip 'em pretty clean before mothballing them.

I need to get out to Pearl...
