weekend wildlife

I have been pretty fortunate lately with Herons and such and thought I'd post a few, all with the super(my k10d is in repair)
an Egret:

This heron was so concerned about aa Egret on his turf, they walked almost too close to focus the smc 500mm (10meters)

the light this morning made it look like a giant flashgun

these were with my 300mm f4

you may have seen this one already (w/500mm f4.5)

hope you like them

Good shots, all of them, but my favourite is the third from last.

Thanks AlpenTak,
I was waiting a while behind some reeds hoping the Egret would work his way into the frame (those little Green Herons really spook easy)

Here in the U.K I think all herons spook easily.

But it's ok, I have an understanding with the herons... they consider letting me near them as long as I don't have a camera with me.

They are the same here,
most won't let you within 100 feet. I have been coming to this area for quite a while and work slowly and if they are fishing I can sometimes get pretty close. I think the one is pretty used to me and I never try to scare them.

Love all the shots Tom but especially the Green Heron. There is on at the bird sancturary here, but I've never been able to get close enough for a shot. He sure looks nice in my 10X70 binocs tho!

Thank you Cupic and James for your comments,
I don't have much of a chance to share my photos except on the internet and I don't have a good monitor so I'm happy when they look OK to others

I sure do like them Tom. #7 is my favorite, but 8 and 4 are great too. Always a pleasure to see your big shore birds!

Thanks LaRee I think I might try to enter that one in the PPG, I've only been able to get 1 wildlife shot approved so far.
