Lightning capture
Lens: Sigma AF 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC Camera: K-70 Photo Location: Tom Price, WA, Australia ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F13.5

Finally, some lightning capture after a very long period without. I've been working here in the central Pilbara for nearly 18 months, and had little to show for it, lightning-wise. Everything seemed against me in this particular spot--hilly terrain, storm going wrong direction, rain. In previous stints up here, slghtly different location , I'd had a lot of luck.
But this night it all came together, ad gave me what was probably the single best evening I've had. Exposures were relatively short with low ISO and small aperture in twilight, working up in exposure time, aperture and ISO as it darkened. Then I had to go back to low ISO and a smaller aperture when the brilliance started overwhelming the sensor. There is no layering here, all single exposures and fairly minimal PP.

That is a fantastic set. I would not be surprised if BOM was interested for their calendars.

Thanks to all. I used to get a lot at my previous site, and had some great captures, but unfortunately I was mostly shooting in jpeg, so when the time came to print some off, no good. I was only just starting to use RAW around the time I left that site/job.
I enjoy lightning capture-as skygzr says above, fun stuff. The actual technical site of it is very basic. The hard part is being in the right place at the right time. Oh, and now having a camera that shoots Interval, well, once set up, you could just sit there, drink beer, and watch the show. :-)

Very promising last night, went out--but they were just a little far away, and spread around the horizon,so you needed to shoot a longer focal length, then that means you end up with a lot out of frame, or missed altogether-then the wind came up, started to rain--you treasure the nights when it all comes together for you.

thank you. This is the first series i have managed with the K-70. took a lot with the K-x previously, the superiority of the K-70 sensor is obvious. With the older sensor, you really couldn't crop too much. I took some a few nights after this, too distant , I thought, I'll have to crop too much. but the results were quite good.
