Lyon air museum - more...
Lens: 28, 100 Camera: 6D Photo Location: John Wayne airport ISO: 100

Another "tarmac day" at the Lyon air museum.

P-70.

L-5 Birddog.

It worked for me.

Zero.

Chipmunk.

There are little footwells in the flaps for adults to get up on the wing.

Air Combat in San Diego will take you on dogfights.

Vincent, and a man.

This is why we call the hatched storage area the "trunk".

Steve McQueen's Panther sidecar.

Willa Dean is the wife of museum founder William Lyon.

AT-6s on the way out.

Boat-car.

AT-6 leaving.

There were many helicopters at the airport. This was the closest one.

The shot of the Chipmunk brought back some happy memories. That was the first aircraft I took the controls of when I was just 13 years old via the Air Training Corps (RAF cadet force) in the UK.

Thanks for the comments. I've added some bonus shots.

From an earlier visit, this was Steve McQueen's Panther.

Varga 2150A.

I had the 100mm macro, so I used it.

Danger ->

Aileron fitting.

AT-6 exhaust.

Prop pitch adjuster.

Pratt & Whitney engine plaque.

AT-6.

I drove from So Cal to Yellowstone, Devil's Tower and Mt Rushmore in 2011. While on the Mt R plaza one evening, an older man approached and handed me a "baseball card", which was about him - the last surviving original worker. He was on the Mt R baseball team back then, which is how he started on the monument. I have misplaced or lost that card, likely in my last move.

Nose art on the B-17, Fuddy Duddy.

It can be confusing at first.

Nice shots. Airplanes are wonderful subjects to photograph

So you have Whiskey 6 there. Whiskey 7 is flying out of Geneseo. NY about 40 miles from me. in 2014 it was flown from here to France to take part in the 70th Anniversary of the Normandy Invasion ceremonies.

Great AT-6 shots. A guy who used to race them at Reno once told me they were "the worlds most efficient method of turning money into noise"
