A lot of pictures involving humans or animals are like that; my wife is used to my stopping while walking and muttering "That picture is demanding to be taken". Some of you are better than others of us in recognizing that early enough to take the picture while it is still there.

Aye that's half the battle... getting everything else right is the other half.

I try to have everything "right" for a typical situation as I walk along (*), but sometimes I forget, and some candid opportunities aren't "typical". I've been trying to trust TAv mode, bur that will be easier when I get a KP to replace my K-30.

(*) Sometimes my wife will ask me What are you photographing?", and I have to admit I'm just "practicing" - checking settings - in case an opportunity does present itself. That is essentially the truth behind "f/8 and be there" - "Weegee Fellig" would set his camera to f/8, focus for maybe 5 feet {so DOF would include most things of interest to him}, and set shutter speed for current situation, and in most cases he could just aim and shoot.
