Not bad for a kit lens is it! A true macro would be better though obviously.

Actually, Kubota Driver, the quality of this image has nothing to do with whether or not the lens is a "true macro". I would be interested in your interpretation of what a "true macro" lens is. If I were to offer unsolicited criticism for this image, I would suggest a higher ISO, maybe 400 or 800, and compensate the exposure with f/8.0 (where macro begins). Otherwise, the color is quite nice. Canon does some things right.

My reference to a macro lens was unnecessary, I should have just suggested that a macro lens would have provided a sharper image. But that would also be true of many lenses that are not macro anyway and of course it is just my opinion.
Nothing wrong with kit lenses.

The only thing that would make it better is if it were taken with a Pentax camera! Only joking, of course. Nice work, Tony.

Actually, you are quite right. My Pentax-DA 18~55mm AL Lens is a very versatile, sharp lens that offers very good color rendition. I believe any manufacturer would have a difficult time in besting anything from Pentax.

Thnx,

The 18-55m Kit lens is one of the most under rated lenses in the Pentax lineup, IMHO. My personal copy is stupid sharp!
