First native wildflower to bloom in the spring
Lens: AF Tamron 70-300mm tele-macro Camera: K-70 Photo Location: Black Moshannon Lake

The Skunk Cabbage is the first native wildflower to bloom here in Central Pennsylvania. Popping up through the ice and snow with showy purple striped buds, the plant generates its own heat through the process of thermogenesis; reaching temperatures of 72F(22C). I was hiking the Moss Hane trail and the only lens I had with me was the Tamron 70-300mm tele/macro. These were shot in macro setting.
