This bird is about 14 inches from head to tail It can make a pretty big hole in a tree in just a few minutes

so that's what those things are.... i've been seeing them at my local state park for 2 years now and knew they were some sort of woodpecker but most of our normal ones are tiny.... then these things show up and they're as big as yorkies...

I am so jealous. I want a shot of one of these bad boys, but they are so shy it is rare I get to glimpse one.
