In a Telephoto Frame of Mind
Lens: DA* 300 Camera: K-1 Photo Location: SE Texas
Posted By: Sailor, 03-26-2018, 03:26 PM

I seldom point my camera at the earth's flora, but last week I photographed some flowers/plants with my DA* 300 simply because I had it on my K-1. None of these pics is an award winner, but it is interesting how the shallow depth of field of a long lens on a FF camera can isolate a subject from its surroundings - at least to me.

That Lens creates sharp images combined with great Bokeh.

I think so, too, EM. I'm enjoying experimenting with it.

Each of them have a lot of 3-D effect. Very nice, Jer.

Thanks much! And I'm finding the lens a joy to use, even though it's a bit of a bazooka.

Good Lord, Jer! I just looked at the reviews and tech data on your DA*-300....and WOW! A minimum focusing distance of 4' 7"! That's amazing! And with a close focus ratio of 1:4? What's not to like? The sharpness is top notch, color rendering is superb and the 3-D effect is out of this world. I wish I could justify putting one in my arsenal, but my old Sigma APO DG 70-300 will have to do. I know it doesn't even run in the same crowd, but oh well.

I appreciate your comments, my friend. Those specs seduced me into buying my DA* 300, although I must admit that the implications of the relatively close focusing capabilities of the lens didn't hit home until put it to use. I already had a K300 bought new by my parents in '79 as my Christmas present that year. However, it's a massive beast with none of the modern capabilities to which I've become addicted, so I decided to pull the trigger on the new one. Sure haven't regretted it.
