Rat Rod

I've been a car guy since I was a kid in the '50s, and I love all sorts of cars and marques. However, I have to admit that I just "don't get" the rat rod thing - perhaps because I'm a geezer too old to be hip.

Nevertheless, I took a few shots of an example of the breed at a car show here in Lake Jackson on Saturday. Based on the driver of this one, I guess these things are aimed at attracting younger enthusiasts. However, the ladies in the last shot appear to be distracted by something else - perhaps a debonair older gentleman in a sports car.

I'm guessing you still get all the driving fun... but without hours of polishing and cleaning.

I wonder who you had in mind... the Old Kerrowdown wasn't even there.

Well . . . . . . . let's see, it couldn't have been me because I was taking the picture. You say you weren't in the vicinity, so . . . . . . . . . . we have a real mystery here, since I can't think of anyone other than us that could've elicited such an excited response.

I think it’s like the fad for “distressed” materials in home renovations. I sure hope that one’s a fad ...

Looks more like shock to one of them and not distraction at all.
I must admit that the "rat" look for cars and bikes has never quite struck me as good to look at. Good opportunity to recycle stuff though. I once worked with a colleague that had made rear suspension struts for his Suzuki out of welded chain links (no dampers). He seemed happy with the ride, I could only wince at the thought of hitting a bump in the road.

I'd say unbridled excitement rather than shock.

I'm with you; as I said in my OP, I don't "get it." But hey, some of my friends think I'm nuts to pay good money for cars that hold only two people and can't carry many groceries.

That's it, EM. I wish I'd have thought of that as my title!
