Good DoF for f8. I have an old Vivitar 24mm Nikon mount, which I use on my Nikon D90, and it produces excellent results.

Terry, I have a Series 1 Vivitar 28-105mm that is trying it's best to crowd some of my true Macro lenses off the shelf! It blows my mind that these lenses can still be found for less than $25.00.

Nice. Vivitar 28-200mm f3.5-5.3, Macro 1:4 made by Kobori 72mm filter weight 675g

There are really some gems in the Vivitar lineup.

Yes, Craig, there certainly are. I'm especially fond of those made by Kobori (serial # 77xxxx) and Kiron (Serial # 22xxxx). They can be found on eBay, often for less than $30.00. Go figure.

I think the lens got some help from the photographer's good eye and steady hand.

You would do well as a stand-up comedian, Jer! My "steady hand" is helped along with a very sturdy monopod! And my "good eye,".... well, even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while!

There is a Vivitar badged Cosina made 28-210mm that I can only assume is close to the Kobori made 28-200mm I have in design that does not need the aperture guard reduced and can be found even cheaper!
I paid $15 for one.
Bargain.
I'm not very good at taking images but I liked this one.

Thank you, I liked the colour and 3D of the Rose but I must have just got lucky with it.

My favourite is the 35-200 by Kobori.

100% crop direct from camera @ 200mm, f10:

With a touch of sharpening:

I feel it compares favourably with the DA*300.
