A Questionable Composition
Lens: Pentax-M 100mm f:2.8 Camera: K-50 Photo Location: Idaho Ditch Bank ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/180s Aperture: F8
Posted By: Dewman, 04-16-2018, 09:08 PM

The way the morning sun hit these berries just made it impossible to NOT take a photograph of them! After downloading it, deciding on the final composition was more of a chore than I thought it would be. I finally decided THIS was the only one that suited me. Not much there to work with. At first, I considered getting rid of the highlights at the top, right and bottom, left.... but the more I looked at it, the more I liked them. It affords some balance, maybe?

I also liked the look of all the summer dust that had built up on the leaves.

In my opinion the highlights you mention help frame the subject. Nice light and vibrant color. Looks good.

Same here - I think your approach works beautifully.

The highlights contain the primary elements very nicely...lovely colours from that lens Dewman...not one I've ever tried.

It's a lens I highly recommend. So small and compact and it produces some amazing images. So very sharp & beautiful bokeh. It's also a wonderful portrait lens.
