Excuse me while I ROCK YOUR WORLD!
Lens: Super Tak 50mm f:1.4 Camera: Spotmatic Photo Location: So. China Sea
Posted By: Dewman, 04-17-2018, 07:53 AM

This is a recovered color slide I shot while in the So. China Sea during the Vietnam war. If you've never been in front of the muzzle when they touch off a 5" - 38, let me just say it's a real shock to your system! Even when you're below deck when they fire this thing, it's like being inside an oil drum and someone's dropping an anvil on it! YIKES!

I have sheets full of slides going back 40 years...the thought of trying to scan them in is a nightmare I don't want to consider...maybe I'll revisit and scan some of the special ones as you've done...thanks for posting Dewman.

Photomax7, scanning slides is a snap with the Epson Perfection V500! Some of the most amazing resolution I've ever seen! It'll also do B&W or color negatives too. I can't say too much good about this piece of equipment!

I've got some scans from small, wallet-size photos that will blow your mind! So.... if you've got lots of slides from the past that you'd like to scan, it's possible for less than $125.00!

I bought a used A3 MICROTEK SCANMAKER 9800XL SCANNER w TMA 1600 ADAPTER to scan in a load of my photos...after 3 days of scanning I gave up...my digital work keeps me busy enough to keep away from it most of the time.

I've been able to go through my entire box of "Family Photos," slides, negatives, etc..... some as far back as 1906..... and scan them, PP them, repair tears and rips, etc.thanks to photo shop.... and save them on a flash drive and distribute copies to all the family. A long process, to be sure, but I'm glad I was able to do it for all my kids, their kids and those to come later on. That way, they can see what a handsome young man their great grandpa was!

Wow - this photo is something to see!

Thanks much for your service. I was in the Army from '73 to '76, but I never came close to harm's way. After 3 or 4 months of Officer's Basic at Aberdeen Proving Ground, I spent the rest of my 3 years of service at an army materials research lab in the Boston area doing exploratory synthesis of advanced polymers. Good duty - the Army did far more for me than I did for the Army.

I have over 6000 sorted and cataloged slides dating as far back as 1954. Some are in surprisingly good shape and some are on it's very last leg. I used to scan them on an Epson 4990 photo with varying success. Lately I have used a different approach, take pictures of them with the 100 macro, works very well and is fast. I'll post a picture of the setup, it's very simple, I'll also post a few of the results:

That is a remarkable image and I can very well appreciate the noise level. Thanks for posting it.

Imagine having stood there through three or four rounds already.... and with your camera at the ready, try NOT to jerk the shutter the next time they fire! But, I was young then. No big deal back then!
