K20D on vacation in the French Alps
Posted By: mikerigel, 09-07-2008, 01:00 AM

My first big trip with the K20 and I'm very happy with the results. Of course the location is so awesome that it would be difficult to mess up.

This is the "Parc de la Vanoise", at about 2000 meters high (7000 feet)

Here's a pano of 4 shots. We started to walk from the left top part of the photo, where you see the trees and small roads, that's a parking lot.
We walked for 8 hours straight that day, the time to get to the lake at the top, and come back down.

Here's the lake, Lac de la Plagne, located at 2150 meters high.

That is another day, another mountain. We were hiking so high and literally passed through the clouds.

And another lake was waiting for us on the top. Pano made of 6 photos.

And I will end with this pano made of 7 photos, taken at the very top, completely in the clouds. On the right, my friend was trying to get a bug.

All shots taken with the Sigma 17-70mm.
There's many more here for the one interested: Savoie mountains, France Photo Gallery by Michael Erard at pbase.com

It was such a great place to be, and the photos don't do justice.
Thanks for looking and comments always welcome.

Wow those colors really pop ! did you do much PP (other than the Pano's ?) . That is an exceptional series of landscape beauty - well done.

Thanks everyone. I did the same PP on all of them: check levels, boost saturation a bit, resize and sharpen for web.
The sky and the grass were that vivid and bright that day, but the K20 didn't record them that way so I had to boost them a bit to match the reality.

Hard to mess up.... hey you should see my flagged shots that go into the bin, I reckon I could soon mess up a beautiful place like that.

Your photos taken are excellent.

Well done

This is amazing ... especially to hike for so long .... and halfway up a mountain to come across such clear still lakes ... definitely a scene not to miss.

A lovely bit of paradise! Not USA's Rocky Mountain, but just a scenic, and without the haze/smog of big cities like Denver. Well done!

September is usually our best month for clear skies in Colorado - hoping to get out again in the next week or so.

Thanks!
