Joshua Tree National Park at Night
Posted By: DeadJohn, 05-03-2018, 01:40 PM

Joshua Tree National Park, California. Skies are dark in the interior of the park. The lower-right horizon glow is light pollution from Palm Springs.

The foreground tree is called a ... Joshua Tree. It grows in the Mojave Desert in California, Nevada, and Arizona. The leaves are long and pointy, reminding me of oversized mutant pine needles. These trees are related to the more widespread yucca shrubs.

Taken with a Panasonic GX-85 (micro four-thirds) and kit 12-32 lens. I left my K-1 system at home because I needed to pack lightly. Please forgive me

Intense I like it, Joshua Tree looks like a hand outstretched toward the Milky Way.

I think this is a wonderful shot - I appreciate the use of B&W!

Well, done! Nice shot!!

I was there camping in January and was lucky enough to spend an hour around midnight taking shots. As you mention, the glow from the Coachella valley is far more intrusive than I would have thought but in a way, it made a couple of the shots I took a bit more dramatic.

I went B&W to deal with noise. The GX-85 seems roughly 3 stops noisier than my K-1 (+2 stops for sensor size +1 for older tech).

Luckily I had my K-3ii so noise was not an issue....but the light pollution was rampant...in a good way I think.

Hi,

This is a beautiful perspective, the light pollution is evident and you can't do anything about it. Anyway it's dramatic, I like the space left to the sky
