Insect Smoothie. (warning, not for the squeamish)
Posted By: Damn Brit, 09-08-2008, 05:25 PM

The first shot I call Tete a Tete.
Now to the main course. I've never seen a spider actually eating before. It was like watching a socialite eat caviar. The food mass glistened like caviar as well.
In the more extreme close up you can see the fangs at the top of the food mass.
When the spider was finished, it just flicked it away like Beckham (I was actually focussing for another shot and saw it happen in the viewfinder) what a shot that would have been).

Nice captures, Gary. Always more interesting to catch one in the act instead of just sitting there.

Gary,

If the shot on spider could be captured slightly further away to have greater sharpness and have it cropped, would be a better one. Still not an easy task having external environment to contend with like wind and available light.

At 1:1, the whole spider cannot be in sharp focus. maybe 1mm from point of focus. A good try and more spider please. Ha ha

Great captures. I wish to see these creatures here soon in spring.

You have got quite some details from these shots.

Cool I like spiders for the fact the are higher on the food chain than other insects I am not so found of. Great capture of the law of the jungle. (or at least the law of whatever area you took that in )

Ha ha, thanks Marcus. I get your point, it's a bit like the difference between hardcore and soft core. In this case I was more at the hardcore end.

Thanks James, I was happy to capture behaviour that I had never seen before.
