disturbing crow war
Posted By: swanlefitte, 05-24-2018, 03:49 PM

A bock away about 100 crows in total were at it. It was like "The Birds" Many crows around here have lost most of their feathers and look like they shoud not be able to fly. I thought disease but now I know why.

Unfortunately they fought behind the trees in the middle.
Here is a crow shot from some time ago showing the lack of feathers.

Maybe a Great Horned Owl is near by? Crows are a favorite meal for the Hoot Owl and they will gang up and try to drive it away.

They were probably mobbing an owl or hawk. The missing feathers could be due to an annual moult.

It is a mystery. That crow has been like that for 5 years. Usually the jays are also in that area. Maybe they were and i could not hear them over the crows and just didn't see them.

I've seen that type of gathering in a tree nearby...usually magpies get in on the act...maybe they're having a meeting to sort stuff out.
