Anaglyphs
Posted By: fwwidall, 06-03-2018, 02:51 PM

I was wondering what I could do with my old istDS which I bought back in 2004, given the fact its resale value is practically zero.

So I came up with a solution - buy another one for very little and use them for creating anaglyphs. Here's what I came up with:

I took it out for a try this morning and the results were encouraging. Dig out the red/green glasses......

I just fired both shutters manually, although the IR remote worked as well. Ideally I'd like to hook up my wired remote to both cameras. Anyone know where I can pick up a 2.5mm female to dual 2.5 male plug adapter ? Not seeing any on ebay.

I used "StereoPhoto Maker" to produce the anaglyphs.

I want to try this with sports in the near future.

I like the side by side 3d or cross eyed 3d photos myself, no glasses needed and no color issues.

Still experimenting with the technique, and having fun which is the main thing.

Lots to learn about parallax, convergence, ghosting, and other things.

Here's my latest effort.

I'm looking at the Fuji Real 3D W3 as a possible fun purchase. Anyone have experience with it ?

I got to try it this setup out at the hockey arena today. It wasn't easy !

In addition to the usual problems of the poor lighting, fast actin, and lots of bodies in motion, I added the problem of trying to press both shutters simultaneously. I used two manual 50mm lenses and prefocused on the goalie to eliminate any autofocus delay, or missed focus.

These were the best I managed today.

I think it'll work better for soccer or rugby, where I can get better depth of field, and a lower ISO. These were shot at F4, ISO 1600 and 1/350s.

Just a follow up.

I got to try the rig out at a soccer game yesterday.

I mounted a pair of Pentax-M 135mm F3.5 lenses and focused on the far goal post. I used Yongnuo RF603s as remote shutter releases and fired away as the action got near the goal.

Results aren't great but for an initial attempt were ok. Hopefully I can do better next time.
