It's lonely when you are out

The game is cricket and the batsman (on the right side) has been given 'out' by the umpire and is making the lonely walk back to the pavilion (locker room). At some point he will be passed by the incoming batsman for his team.

I was absolutely hopeless at this game,it was compulsory at my school, its played in summer and I always got hayfever meaning my eyes were so banged up I could not see anything, to make matters worse I was left handed so the whole field of players had to be turned round for somebody who was nearly always out first ball, todays health & safety gear was unknown, we had one leg pad and one glove which you had to give to the next guy and for all practical purposes the ball feels pretty much like solid wood and if you catch it wrong, as I always did, your fingers really hurt. Once I was in the slips - the catching position near to the batsman - I remember the ball coming down and the next thing I remember was looking up at the sky with everybody looking down at me after having been knocked out cold. It was not my favourite game.
