Big Boy in the Backyard
Posted By: fillerupmac, 09-11-2008, 05:29 PM

We live right at the base of the foothills of the RockyMountains, in Colorado Springs. It is not uncommon any more to see Mule Deer wandering the neighborhood. I got up this morning, and found this guy bedded down in the backyard, working over his breakfast.

I tried my best sneaking out the backdoor, but he decided he better check me out standing up....

He still has velvet on his antlers, and the tips aren't too pointed yet, but he is definitely one of the bigger bucks around. I'd guess he's around seven years old.

He gave me a nice portrait shot...

What a treat. Well it is for this city slicker where our wild life consists of the occasional raccoon and a few drunks. Nice shots. Is it hunting season in CO yet?

As a fellow big game hunter, it's annoying to see these guys amble by the house, and we can't touch them! I think the deer understand this too - it's safe haven for them in the neighborhood.

Archery season opened last weekend, black powder soon, and rifle for elk/deer combined is a month away. We have been very successful elk hunting, and I have developed a taste for elk! Not to mention, they are 100% "organically" fed
