I have spent my life working on buildings, mostly glass and concrete designed at cheapest possible cost in accordance with planning laws, there is something however in the organic growth of old cities, that managed perfectly well without laws or guidelines, that makes one feel far more at home and comfortable than present day sanitised construction.

I don't know Venice but the left side of the first picture shows how beautiful more or less ordinary buildings, which do not appear to be built by the rich, can be, very nicely framed. I like the the last picture as well. There is a nice amount of action in picture two which enlivens the scene well, too many shutters in picture three to appeal to me.

Well done Paolo.

Thanks for the comments and constructive criticism
As for picture three, you can't have sunset and open shops at the same time, maybe in winter...
The throngs when I went there were also not too conducive to photography at any other time of the day.
I'll post the "by night" gallery maybe tomorrow, and as you'll see it's a whole different town.

These are comments, not criticisms {these are fine pictures}:

(1) It would be interesting to see how a picture taken with a UWA compared to #2

(2) I would have been happier with #3 if it had been taken several steps down; as is, I feel isolated from the people - an observer rather than a participant.

I welcome criticism it's the only way to get better.

(1) I don't think I can accommodate your request... picture #2 was shot with the Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm... don't have nothing wider that that!

(2) I waited for people to get as far as possible, since I was more interested in the scenario, and there's nothing that ticks me off like having sawed-off people in a picture. I made another one (a reverse shot), but it's mostly the same as far as people are concerned.

Lenses and FLs, in case you wonder:
#1 40mm XS
#2, #3 and #4 10-20mm at 10mm

So #2 was a pano taken with a 10mm lens? That is a lot of width!

Well, no.... a panorama in the sense of view, not of multiple photos stitched..

panorama
noun [ C ] us /ˌpæn·əˈræm·ə, -ˈrɑ·mə/

a view from a great distance that covers a very large area:
From the top floor of the hotel you get a panorama of the whole city.

^ this I meant... perhaps "panoramic view" would have been more appropriate?

Great shots... I’m just a sucker for all things Venice, as it’s one of my most favouritetist places, especially for the little more different images, as some of these are.
