Istanbul 2 - Topkapi Palace
Camera: K-01 Photo Location: Istanbul, Turkey
Posted By: LensBeginner, 06-21-2018, 05:22 AM

Part 1 is here.

One of the most famous tourist attractions in Istanbul, so it's quite difficult to get something good.

At the right time of the year, the gardens literally overflow with roses

Yeah... had exactly one day off, so I had to cram everything in...
Did the museum pass and used it to visit Hagia Sophia, the Topkapi Palace+the Harem and part of the Archaeological Museum.
Also managed to cram a 2+hrs Bosphoros cruise (which is a steal... on the ferries of the main navigation company you are charged like 3-4€, can't remember exactly...).

How did you manage not to get any tourists in any of the photos?! That's quite an achievement!

Islamic art has lot of miniature work. They are good subject for MACRO work. I have never seen them in person. Just book knowledge.

Thanks all

@IgorZ I wait. I put myself in a spot, point the camera, if someone wants to pass I make a gesture indicating they can pass in front of me no problems. Eventually I get a gap and I take my picture. Using an UWA (like in the pavilion picture) helps, because you can get closer and people just pass behind you.

@pentaxfall There were also lots of interesting things that couldn't be photographed... from everyday's items to swords, books... unfortunately they were in rooms with "no camera" signs.

I remember when we went to Topkapi and had to go through the metal detector, my camera bag set off the alarm. I started taking it off and opening it to show it to the security agents. They just gave me a look like "are you crazy?" and waved me through. They are definitely laid back...

Hahaha!

They've got x-ray scanners now (maybe you went to Istanbul before the coup attempt?), so I just took it off and placed it on the conveyor belt, like you do at the airport.
Nothing too strict anyway, I too set one metal detector off - I think it was the trouser's belt - but they didn't seem to care much just like yuou said.
