National Canoe Day is technically Canadian and this is a US canoe but I'm celebrating anyway.

So, are you going to fiberglass it?

The popular vote says fiberglass. (Actually no one except me votes for canvas.)

There are still blobs of polyester resin on my parents' basement floor, almost 50 years after my dad fiberglassed it. And polyester is not supposed to be as tough as today's epoxy resin.

I agree--it would be a shame to not use canvas on it, as it was so originally, and with a place to store and work on it. Ideal is probably an aluminum or composite one for very tough trips, although watching Bill Mason's films, he took a canvas and wood canoe everywhere.

Very nice. When I was in a sailing club as a kid we would prepare a boat for sailing by stripping the varnish and varnishing it, among other things. I have been thinking about working on an old wooden canoe for a while, but the boss would not allow it. And she'd be right! No time with 3 kids...

Another canvas vote! We'll see if I can do it right. The millions of tack holes in the center of the stem are from canvassing.

Also space - they take up a lot of room.
