Self-Portrait with Helios 44-2!
Lens: Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 Camera: Pentax K-S2 Photo Location: Jasper, AB ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/500s Aperture: F2

Used the WIFI in my K-S2 to take a self-portrait.. SO hard to get good focus!

And you can see the famous Helios swirl! I've yet to master that trick.

Yeah I think I might just have a good copy, I can get good swirl on APSC!

The trick on APS-C is to have plenty of out-of-focus highlights out towards the edges, and to keep them relatively small - as you've done perfectly in this image. Of course, that works for full-frame too, but it's especially important for achieving the effect with a cropped sensor.

As always, the key to getting the swirl effect is a combination of camera-to-subject and subject-to-background distance, and a suitable background. Easier said than done, sometimes
