Bridge of Flowers
Camera: K-30
Posted By: reh321, 07-02-2018, 11:37 AM

At almost exactly this time last week, my wife and I were at the "Bridge of Flowers" in Northwest Massachusetts. The bridge was originally constructed almost a century ago by a local trolley company; the nearby steel bridge was insufficiently strong for freight trolleys, so they constructed this concrete one. The trolley company soon went out of business, but the bridge was very sturdy, so it lasted, and lasted. Eventually it accumulated enough soil for weeds to grow, so locals replaced the weeds with flowers, and today it is a tourist attraction.

Usually I use my Sigma 10-20mm lens on landscapes, where the distortion is not really evident. I used it in this setting, at wide end, only because there is so little distance between bridge and the steel bridge at this end. Looking at the purely vertical lines in the first picture is the first time I realized how dramatic the distortion is {but the bridge does look like what I was looking at}.

Nice! It has some very fishy characteristics when the lines are angled away doesn't it?

Yeah .... since I don't usually see this kind of effect {I'll post some other pictures from this lens later} I'm still trying to decide what I think of it.
