From Eagles to Dragons
Lens: DA 55-300 PLM Camera: KP Photo Location: Liberty, Maine ISO: 500 Shutter Speed: 1/320s Aperture: F8
Posted By: SSGGeezer, 07-13-2018, 06:53 AM

Had a bunch of Eagle shots while out in Washington state so when I got home I had to get out and shoot some dragonflies after mowing the lawn.(Which was in dire need of it after my trip.)
First shot is with my FA 77 Limited taken in Washington while the Dragonflies are all with my DA 55-300 PLM here in Maine..

All fine photos. The problem with finding dragonflies in your yard is that they are attracted by their prey, tiny insects, so that probably means you have lots of mosquitoes - but fewer than you would have without the dragonflies.

Too true! I prefer mosquitos to the Deerflies that were biting me last week. Those Expletive deleted buggers take a chunk of skin when they bite! If you leave some longer grass, the Dragonflies like it also as a perch to see enemies and prey bugs. I still think my Eagle image with the 77mm is much better than I expected. They were very close and this is not a heavy crop at all. original crop is roughly 3600x 2400px.

Thank you! There is a series from tree to departure of the eagles in the Prime, Prime, everywhere a prime thread under Lens discussions. I have a similar shot cropped differently and would love to hear a preference from PF members.

I will look for it. I see the thread. What is the best way to navigate this site to find your pictures as the thread is very large? Thanks!

Page 384 post 3810 so near the end. Lts of great shots with primes in the thread, (not including most of mine!) Thanks for the interest. As I say in that thread I was missing my 55-300 PLM most days because of the large number of Bald Eagles on Mason Lake. I could have used my 120-400 Sigma but my bag would have been overweight if I had carried that beast!
