Wild weather.
Lens: Sigma DG 70--300 Camera: K30 Photo Location: Tasmania

Wild weather all along the NW coast of Tasmania today. Wind gusts to over 70 kph.

I read that the waves would be 8 metres + along the southern Australian coast for the next few days, due to the cumulative effects of a succession of low pressure systems. Good to see a pic of some of it in action (and a nice pic it is, too). Make sure you stand well back.

By selecting shutter speed of 1/1000, you have definitely captured the power at work here.

Bravo for you on going out there! This is a fine composition and a dramatic moment- but where's the focal point? It can be hard to keep foreground and background in focus with long lenses, but here I only see fine detail at the extreme right foreground. When I get to do this kind of photo, I like to use a fast shutter speed, to capture detail. Or a very slow one, to lose detail and show the flow. In between usually doesn't work.

My pet hate is slow shutter speeds used for water. All that does is produce a blurred, messy featureless image lacking in waves ripples and texture. As for focal point, if you can't see that it is smack in the middle of the image, then you are missing something.
