.... this caboose was at the end of an Eastbound freight train through town.

Today the government doesn't require cabooses, so the railroads don't have them anymore. Even with crude oil trains, they find something else to serve as "buffer car", car at end of train to absorb the impact of any collision.

Grand Trunk Western has been absorbed into Canadian National, which has always owned it

The guards or vans truck is a good photo and the best well done. Cheers

Nice photo. I also remember cabooses. I also...barely...remember steam engines puffing across the prairies. My grandfather worked as a carpenter for 49.5 years with the Canadian Pacific Railway....with 4 years off (1914-18) for the Great War.
