If I'm not much mistaken, that's a Gibson "The Paul", a guitar I owned many moons ago... and it looks like it has been re-finished at some point (you can see the outline of the "Gibson" logo transfer ).

You are correct and correct. It's a 1978 that I purchased for $220 in about 1983/84 when I was in high school. I've been chided for it, but I refinished it, because it was pretty ratty and it was just oil on Walnut.

I actually sold it to a friend and bought it back from him about 5 years later. I think at this point, I'll leave it to my son or be buried with it.

I bought mine around 1986, though I can't remember what year the guitar was... also oiled walnut. Played beautifully, and sounded great through a Marshall amp and a couple of 4 x 12s. Sadly, for the kind of music I was playing back then, I preferred something with single coil pickups, or a mix of single and double. My main guitar was a Kramer with one humbucker (with coil taps) and two single coils. I ended up selling that Gibson after two or three years. Really wish I hadn't... they're quite sought after now

Maybe it will come back to you, mine did!

Nothing wrong with single coil pickups. I love telecasters.

I'm actually a bass player. Should have a photoshoot with my bass one of these days.

If I recall correctly, "The Paul" was a flat-topped, solid body, single cutaway which looked like a Les Paul, but without the hollow body top on it? Seems like a friend of mine had one in black lacquer back in the mid-80s when we were both learning to play. Nice pic, and nice memory spike. Thanks!

It was a cheaper model. The pickup selector is near the control knobs to require less routing.

It was a good buy for me as a teenager and I glad that I still have it...as a matter of fact, I should go and play it right now!
