Prague flood, 2002
Lens: Ozunun 35-75mm Camera: K-1000 Photo Location: Praha ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/60s

This was taken not long before the 2002 flood reached its peak. The building in the background was badly affected by the flood waters, which completely engulfed the island on which it's located. As you can see, the water nearly reaches the underside of the bridge in this shot.

This is quite the shot - and BW was a good choice because it lends a "news-story" ambiance to it.

When I shoot film, I almost invariably shoot B/W. Color just wouldn't have worked here, anyway. This was during the flooding that engulfed much of the region, and I could have bent down, from where I was standing, and put my hand in the water.

You can sense drama in this shot. Well done!

Someone with a sense of humor later hung a white flag from an upper window of the white building (a restaurant). Damage was extensive in several countries.

Was good BW and people captions to action. Cheers

Thanks! You can see a tram on the bridge, in the background. Looking back, I'm rather surprised they were still running. All the bridges were closed for days after the flood peaked.

It might sound a bid morbid, but I've always been interested in natural disaster photography...
The calm before the storm, the leading moments before the chaos. It's always fascinated me.
